Bassmaster Classic has big impact on Regional Tour
For Immediate Release
Bassmaster Classic has big impact on Regional Tourism
Louisiana North, a regional tourism partnership, attended the 2010 Bassmaster Classic in Birmingham, Alabama last weekend to promote tourism in North Louisiana. Mary Ann Tice of the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority announced Shreveport/Bossier has been selected to host the 2012 Bassmaster Classic. Great news indeed, especially after Shreveport/Bossier hosted the record breaking event in 2009.
It seems that the world of sport fisherman have discovered Louisiana. The tournament will be in New Orleans in 2011.Thanks to the hard work of Ms. Tice and foresight of our Mayors, Cedric Glover and Lo Walker, Shreveport/Bossier Tourist Bureau and the Louisiana Office of Tourism for bringing attention back to our region of Louisiana in 2012.
Johnny Wessler, Executive Director of Louisiana North along with Louisiana North ambassadors, Becky and Arnold Anderson from the Sabine River Authority, Arlene Gould from the Natchitoches Convention & Visitors Bureau and Debra Pryor from Alexandria/Pineville CVB all joined in to promote North Louisiana as the sportsman’s paradise.
Louisiana North was formed to promote regional tourism in 29 parishes located in North Louisiana. Visitor guides were distributed and invitations were issued to attendees to visit our region. Replicas of the two record lunkers (15+ lbs) caught in Toledo Bend were displayed and bragging rights went to Jackson Parish for the state record bass (15.94 lbs) caught in Caney Lake, located in North Louisiana.
Residents and promoters from North Louisiana were found throughout the Classic. Long-time bass fishing advocate, Don McCutcheon and his wife Millie stopped by our booth to visit. Don and his family used to own the Shreveport area Dairy Queens and now represent Tracker Boats for Bass Pro Shops in Alabama.
Webster Parish fishing professional Homer Humphries, took time out from greeting fans and signing autographs and came by to say hello as did professional anglers Jeff Connella from Alexandria, Judy Wong from Many and Katherine Arnold from Shreveport. Also, Randy Walters from Natchitoches was there representing the Red River Waterway Commission.
Representatives from Shreveport-based companies were there as well. Mike Van Sant, former Shreveport Police Chief who now represents Safe-T-Products and Mike Young, owner of Red River Sanitors were there to help promote his brother’s new company, Laser Lures.
The Bassmaster Classic has been described as the Super Bowl of fishing tournaments. It is fun, exciting and family oriented. We should all be proud and appreciate the hard work of all who have helped bring this tournament back to North Louisiana, a true Sportsman’s Paradise.
